SSU and National Police detain head of district Medical and Social Expert Commission who extorted bribe from paralyzed Ukrainian serviceman
The SSU and National Police have exposed head of one of the interdistrict medical and social expert centers in Kirovohrad region, who is also a member of the city council, on a corruption scheme.
According to the investigation, the official demanded USD 2,000 from a wounded Armed Forces soldier for a lifetime disability status.
The Ukrainian defender was seriously injured during the battle for Chasiv Yar in the spring of 2023.
The fragments of a russian guided aerial bomb wounded the serviceman, after which the left side of his body became paralyzed.
However, the head of the institution still demanded a bribe from the victim for the status.
The law enforcement documented the crime and detained the official when she was receiving the bribe.
The woman has been notified of suspicion under Article 368.1 of the CCU (acceptance of an offer, promise or receipt of an unlawful benefit by an official).
The court is to decide on a measure of restraint.
The investigation is ongoing. The suspect faces up to 10 years of imprisonment with confiscation of property.
The operation was carried out by the SSU Office in Kirovohrad region jointly with the National Police under the procedural supervision of Kirovohrad Region Prosecutor’s Office.
