SSU and National Police detain drug addicts who set fire to military pick-up trucks in Cherkasy for russian money

The SSU and the National Police have apprehended two russian accomplices who committed arson attacks in Cherkasy. The enemy’s targets were pick-up trucks of Ukraine’s Defence Forces and facilities of Ukrzaliznytsia [Ukrainian Railways].

Within one day, the perpetrators set fire to two AFU off-road vehicles and a relay cabinet near the main railway line.

According to the investigation, one of the traitors is a displaced person from Lysychansk, Luhansk region, who settled in Cherkasy region, and the other – a local resident.

Both are drug addicts who were looking for easy money on Telegram channels. There, they received a response from a russian, who offered them money for their ‘cooperation’.

For the arsons, they bought petrol and a flammable mixture.

The SSU Counterintelligence apprehended both offenders in hot pursuit. During the searches, the investigators seized a mobile phone used in the sabotage against Ukraine.

After completing three ‘test’ tasks, the agents were to continue arsons.

They have been notified of suspicion under Articles 28.2 and 114-1.1 of the CCU (obstruction of lawful activities of the AFU and other military formations, committed by a group, upon prior conspiracy). The suspects are in custody and face up to 8 years in prison.

The decision to additionally qualify their actions under Article 113.2 of the CCU (sabotage, committed under martial law) is pending.

The operation was carried out by the SSU Office in Cherkasy region jointly with the National Police under the procedural supervision of Cherkasy District Prosecutor’s Office.
