Smuggling of precursors from East Asia exposed
The SBU jointly with law enforcement agencies of the Federal Republic of Germany, blocked smuggling of narcotics into Ukraine. Law enforcement seized 175 kg of natural narcotic drugs (133 kg of pure precursor). Using this, dealers could produce approximately 100 kg of methadone worth UAH 90 m. (USD 3.3 m.).
The SBU established that the director of a private company in Kyiv organized smuggling. He received raw materials from one of East Asia countries via international express courier service.
To conceal illegal activities, narcotics were transported under the guise of legal substances used in the chemical industry. Moreover, a shell company was indicated as a shipment.
On the basis of the collected evidence, SBU investigators served the offender a suspicion notice of smuggling of narcotic drugs, psychotropic substances, their analogues or precursors, or falsified medicines. The pre-trial investigation was completed. The indictment has been sent to the Prosecutor General's Office for approval and submission to court.
The operation was carried out by officers of the SBU Main Department for Combating Corruption and Organized Crime jointly with the SBU Main Investigation Department, and under the supervision of the Prosecutor General's Office in cooperation with the State Customs Service of Ukraine.
