SBU exposes multiple caches with weaponry

The SBU systematically uncovers caches with weapons. In a day, the SBU found five caches in Kyiv and Luhansk regions, as well as in Mykolayiv city.

Allegedly, militants hid the munitions to sabotage and destabilize social and political situation in Ukraine. 

In Kyiv region, during the searches of the offenders’ residences, the SBU officers seized:

  • 12 hand grenades;
  • 20 fuzes;
  • over 260 rounds of various caliber;
  • refurbished starting gun with live rounds.

Law enforcement established that two residents of Obukhiv district were involved in illegal activities. They are currently detained and served the suspicion notices. The type of detention is to be chosen.

In Mykolayiv, SBU officers found a cache with weaponry in a forest park:

  • 3 rocket-propelled anti-tank grenades;
  • 1 anti-personnel mine MON-50;
  • 3 RGD-5 grenades with fuzes;
  • more than 150 rounds of various calibers.

Allegedly, the offenders smuggled the munitions from Russia to southern Ukraine through the separatist-held territories.

In the Sievierodonetsk district, SBU exposed:

  • three caches arranged in 2014 by militants.

They set up a cache in a forest belt near Voronove village. It was disguised under slabs in an abandoned building near Siverskyi Donets river. Another cache was found in a field near Borivske village.

In total, the following items were seized:

  • almost 15 kg of TNT;
  • 2 rocket-propelled anti-tank grenades;
  • 8 VOG-17 and VOG-25 grenade launchers;
  • 17 RGD-5 and F-1 grenades;
  • almost 1,000 rounds of various calibers.

The investigative actions are underway to establish all the circumstances of the offense and bring to justice those involved in the illegal activities.

The operation was conducted by the SBU officers of the Main Department for Combating Corruption and Organized Crime, the SBU Main Directorate in Donetsk and Luhansk regions, the SBU Office in Mykolaiv region jointly with the National Police and the State Emergency Service, under the supervision of Prosecutor's Office.
