SBU detects caches with military weapons

The SBU found four caches with military weapons in Zaporizzhia and Odesa regions. Allegedly, militants of so-called L/DNR set up a cache on the territory of the Berdiansk district in 2014 in order to carry out sabotage activities.

The cache was hidden in a forest near one of the villages. The law enforcement seized from the cache:

  • TNT blocks with a total weight of almost three kg;
  • 15 anti-tank grenades;
  • 57 F-1, RGD-5 and RGN grenades;
  • 20 g of hexogen;
  • 1,000 rounds of 5.45 mm caliber.

During the search of the second cache, which was arranged in a forest strip near the Zaporizzhia international airport, the law enforcement seized:

  • 120 g of plastic explosive;
  • eight detonators;
  • detonating chord;
  • two anti-tank grenades;
  • three F-1 and RGD-5 grenades;
  • nine magazines for automatic weapons;
  • almost 2,000 rounds of various calibers;

SBU officers found another cache in a Melitopol downtown park. The SBU seized from the cache:

  • 15 shells of F-1 and RGD grenades;
  • almost 300 rounds of 5.45 mm caliber.

The seized items were sent for examination.

In addition, officers of the SBU Main Directorate of Internal Security found a cache with weapons and ammunition in Odesa region, near the Kyiv highway.

During the search of the cache, the law enforcement officers found:

  • two anti-tank grenades;
  • seven RGD and F-1 grenades;
  • three grenades for grenade launcher;
  • over 400 rounds of various calibers.

The SBU initiated criminal proceedings for unlawful handling of weapons, ammunition or explosives. The urgent investigative and operational actions are ongoing to bring to justice those involved in illegal activities.
