SSU exposes russian agents who prepared sham referendum in Mykolaiv region

The SSU has exposed russian agents who were preparing and popularizing russia’s fake referendum in the temporarily occupied territory of Mykolaiv region.

Two of them have already been processed by the SSU and served suspicion notices, while the organizer of the pseudo-vote, currently hiding from justice in the temporarily occupied territory, has been notified of suspicion in absentia.

According to the investigation, the ‘fugitive’ is a resident of Bashtanka district, who voluntarily participated in the organization and holding of the fake referendum in Mykolaiv region. The woman assisted the occupiers in creating territorial polling stations and compiled lists of ‘voters’.

Her accomplices in the Ukraine-controlled territory helped spread the topic of the ‘referendum’ in social networks. In particular, they disseminated fakes that the population of Mykolaiv region ‘supports’ the planned referendum.

The SSU collected evidence of their involvement and notified these individuals of suspicion of offence under Article 436-2 of the CCU (justifying, recognizing as lawful, denying russia’s armed aggression against Ukraine).

The organizer of the pseudo-referendum was served a notice of suspicion of collaboration (Articles 28.2 and 111-1.5 of the CCU).

The investigation is underway.

Traitors are facing up to ten years in prison for assisting the aggressor state.

The SSU Office in Mykolaiv region carried out the operation under the procedural supervision of Mykolaiv Region Prosecutor’s Office.
