SSU exposes russian agents who collected intelligence on fortifications near Kramatorsk and Zaporizhzhia
In the front-line areas of Donetsk region, the SSU detained two russian agents, who carried out reconnaissance of combat positions and routes of movement of Ukrainian troops in the region.
The spies passed information on geolocation and engineering features of fortifications along the eastern and southern fronts to the enemy.
One of the agents was detained as a result of the SSU’s special operation in Kramatorsk.
The traitor turned out to be a local businessman who was trying to develop a construction business in the temporarily occupied Crimea. Through personal connections in commercial circles, he became a co-owner of construction of an industrial facility on the Ukrainian peninsula.
However, the local occupation administration discovered ‘deficiencies’ in the businessman’s permit documentation.
He turned to his acquaintances for help, and they ‘led’ the entrepreneur to a representative of the main directorate of the general staff of russian armed forces (aka GRU), who offered to solve the business issue in exchange for confidential cooperation.
According to the occupiers’ instructions, the agent was to collect intelligence on Kramatorsk’s defence. He transmitted the gathered information through an anonymous Telegram channel as text messages and images of the city’s defensive fortifications.
Another russian agent was detained by the SSU in Pokrovsk. The traitor is a woman, who conducted reconnaissance of locations and movement of Ukrainian troops in the front-line areas of Donetsk and Zaporizhzhia oblasts.
To do this, she visited both regions and carried out covert surveillance of Ukrainian military facilities.
Then, she sent the results of her ‘observations’ to the occupiers through several messenger apps.
The enemy accomplice came to the attention of the invaders due to her activity in social networks, where she published her pro-kremlin posts.
During the searches of both suspects, investigators found mobile phones with evidence of unlawful activity.
The detainees have been notified of suspicion of treason (Article 111.1). Court has selected custody as a measure of restraint.
The pre-trial investigation is ongoing.
The SSU Offices in Dnipropetrovsk, Donetsk, and Luhansk regions carried out the operations under the coordination of the SSU Counterintelligence Department and the procedural supervision of Donetsk Region Prosecutor’s Office.
