The SSU, with the personal assistance of the Minister of Defence of Ukraine, has exposed the head of the MoD’s Main Directorate of Capital Investments on corruption.

According to the investigation, the directorate head illegally enriched himself by almost UAH 14 million (USD 362,000) during 2022-2023.

He used the money to buy two apartments in new residential complexes, a garage and a parking space in Kyiv.

The official also bought three premium cars, including a LEXUS and a BMW.

To hide the illicit assets, he registered them to his common-law wife.

At the same time, he issued a power of attorney to manage this property.

The investigation revealed that the person in question also concealed over UAH 3 million from declaring and kept another UAH 3.5 million with his civilian wife.

The Defence Ministry’s directorate chief has been served a notice of suspicion under two Articles of the CCU:

• 368-5 (illicit enrichment);
• 366-2.1 (declaring false information).

The court is to decide on a measure of restraint. The investigation is ongoing.

The perpetrator faces up to 10 years in prison.

The operation was carried out jointly with the National Police under the procedural supervision of Kyiv Specialized Defence Prosecutor’s Office of the Central Region.
