SSU exposes dealers who sold Ukrainians’ personal data to russians
In Kyiv, the SSU exposed a scheme of selling personal data of Ukrainian citizens.
The perpetrators created a specialized Internet platform and a Telegram bot, to which they ‘leaked’ passport data, phone numbers and vehicle plates belonging to residents of different regions of Ukraine.
To gain access to the electronic databases, customers paid for a ‘subscription’ to the Internet resources.
The group offered a one month ‘subscription’ for up to USD 200.
The offenders used specially created Telegram channels to find clients and received payments to crypto wallets.
According to available intelligence, it is likely that among customers of such services were representatives of the russian intelligence, who were looking for information on servicemen of the Defence Forces.
As a result of operational and investigative activities, the SSU detained the organizer of the scheme.
This is an entrepreneur from Cherkasy, who purchased specialized server equipment for collecting and processing personal data.
The individual involved two Kyiv residents, who helped him create and administer online services.
During the searches at the suspects’ homes, the SSU found computer equipment and other material evidence of the crime.
The organizer was served a notice of suspicion under the Article 361-2.1 of the CCU (unauthorized sale of restricted information stored in electronic computers protected in accordance with the current legislation).
Court is to decide on a measure of restraint. Investigators are preparing notices of suspicion to the organizer’s accomplices.
The investigation is ongoing to establish all the circumstances of the crime and bring the involved to justice.
The SSU exposed the offence under the procedural supervision of the Prosecutor General’s Office.
