Ternopil region: SBU uncovers corrupt officials of State Architectural and Construction Inspectorate

In Ternopil region, the SBU exposed a head of the Department of the State Architectural and Construction Inspectorate and his subordinate, the construction supervisor inspector, on bribery.

Allegedly, the officials set up a scheme to systematically receive bribes from constructors. For different amounts of money, the offenders promised businessmen to provide contract license without impediment.

SBU officers documented extortion by the head from a local developer to provide documents for commissioning commercial real estate project.

Law enforcement officers detained the offenders in the workplace on receiving the second part of illegal gain. Reportedly, the first part of bribe they received before.

The criminal proceedings were initiated for accepting an offer, promise or taking a bribe by an official. The issue of serving the detainees a suspicion notice and choosing a type of detention is being resolved.

The operation was carried out by the SBU Main Directorate for Combating Corruption and Organized Crime jointly with the SBU Office in Ternopil city, in assistance with the National Police under the procedural supervision of the Ternopil Region Prosecutor's Office.

We remind that in November the SBU documented the deputy head of a regional council and the head of regional management of the State Architectural and Construction Inspectorate on extortion of money from contractors of the Big Construction infrastructure project. Earlier, the SBU exposed the State Architectural and Construction Inspectorate officials on large-scale illegal issuance of building permits.
