The SSU exposed large-scale corruption in Dnipropetrovsk region organized by a director of a public utilities company in the city of Kryvyi Rih.

The official, bypassing procurement regulations, purchased buses and trolleybuses for the city at a price almost twice higher than the manufacturer’s selling prices.

He involved an affiliated company in the scam.

According to the investigation, public transport was purchased by an intermediary company instead of the public utilities company. In that way, public utilities used the purchased transport on lease.

The forensic expertise established that the scam caused UAH 7.3 m (USD 274,000) city budget losses.

During the investigation, law enforcement officers discovered the documentation confirming the illegal activity.

The director was served a suspicion notice of neglect of official duty.

The investigation is on-going to establish all the circumstances and to identify and bring to justice all the individuals involved.

The operation was conducted jointly with the investigators of the Kryvyi Rih Local Police Department of the National Police in Dnipropetrovsk Region under the procedural supervision of Kryvyi Rih Central District Prosecutor’s Office.
