SSU detains spotters who guided Shahed drones at AFU radar stations and power lines in northern Ukraine
The SSU Counterintelligence has apprehended two enemy agents who operated in Kyiv and Chernihiv regions. They were adjusting russian air attacks on Ukraine’s Defence Forces and energy facilities.
The perpetrators are two Kyiv residents aged 17 and 21, recruited remotely by an officer of russian military intelligence (‘the GRU’).
To obtain the coordinates of targets for the kamikaze drones, including the Shahed-type UAVs, the assets drove around both regions in their car.
During the trips, the traitors tried to identify combat positions of Ukrainian radar stations defending the airspace of Kyiv and Chernihiv oblasts.
They also collected information on the consequences of the aggressor’s drone attacks on energy facilities in northern Ukraine.
To do this, they filmed infrastructure facilities on mobile phone cameras with extra power supplies, hiding the devices in camouflaged boxes near the transmission towers of the power lines.
The SSU Counterintelligence uncovered the group, documented their crimes and detained them at their homes.
During the searches, the investigators seized mobile phones with evidence of communication with russia’s GRU.
The SSU has served the detained individuals notices of suspicion under Article 111.2 of the CCU (high treason, committed under martial law).
The criminal actions of the 21-year-old are additionally qualified under Article 304 of the CCU (involvement of minors in unlawful activities).
Both suspects are in custody and face life imprisonment with confiscation of property.
The operation was carried out by the SSU Office in Chernihiv region under the procedural supervision of the regional Prosecutor’s Office.
