SBU unveils large deal in Ukrzaliznytsia: UAH 200 million spent on materials which fall short of safety requirements

The SBU exposed the scheme of uncertified products supply for JSC "Ukrzaliznytsia". The company spent more than UAH 200 million on materials for interior repairing of cars. However, products purchased for state funds fall short of passenger safety requirements.

According to preliminary data of the pre-trial investigation, the deal in 2016 was organized by representatives of the state company and several affiliated commercial structures. Under the terms of the contract, the winners of the tender were to supply the railway with materials for the repair of passenger seats in the rolling stock.

However, instead of products of the established standard, dealers shipped low-quality goods to the state enterprise, including those made of flammable materials.

To prevent emergencies on the railway, law enforcement officers conducted searches of the workplaces and residences of the scheme participants. During the investigation, technical and financial and economic documentation, confirming the illegal activities, was found.

The issue of serving the organizers of the deal suspicion notices and choosing type of detention is currently being resolved.

The offense was exposed by officers of the SBU Main Directorate for Counterintelligence Protection of the State's Interests in the Sphere of Economic Security together with the Main Investigation Department of the National Police and under the procedural guidance of the Prosecutor General's Office.
