The SBU exposed one of the mayors in the Kirovohrad region on corruption. The official set up a scheme to receive bribes for not creating artificial barriers during land privatization.

To hide the illegal activities, the mayor "suggested" to transfer the money to a controlled commercial entity.

According to preliminary investigation data, the official organized a mechanism for obtaining illegal benefits from local residents, including entrepreneurs. For various sums, he "guaranteed" assistance in the unimpeded transfer into private property communal land for economic activities.

Law-enforcement detained the mayor in his office after transferring the next bribe. Earlier, the fact that the official received the first part of the illegal benefit has been documented.

Within the criminal proceedings under acceptance of the offer, the promise or reception of illegal benefit by the official the urgent investigative actions for bringing to justice of other persons involved in transactions are under way.

The issue of serving the detainee suspicion notice and choosing a type of detention is being resolved.

The operation to expose the offense was carried out by officers of the SBU Office in Kirovohrad region together with investigators of the National Police Regional Department under the procedural guidance of the Kirovohrad Regional Prosecutor's Office.
