Kherson region: SSU prevents unlawful sale of trophy russian weapons to local criminals
The SSU Counterintelligence prevented illegal arms trade in the front-line areas of Kherson region.
As part of stabilization efforts in the de-occupied part of the region, an offender was detained on an attempt to sell weapons and ammunition he found in the areas of hostilities.
The seized items include russian anti-tank weapons and hundreds of large-caliber ammunition, including for automatic weapons and machine guns.
It was established that the offender involved accomplices in illegal trafficking.
According to findings, he looked for clients in criminal circles.
The SSU and the National Police timely exposed criminal intentions and prevented illegal weapons trafficking in southern front-line areas.
According to the investigation, an organizer of illicit business is a resident of the village of Ukrainka, Beryslavskyi district, Kherson region.
He kept weapons and ammunition for sale in a special cache, equipped in his home.
During the search of the cache, SSU officers seized:
- a Kornet anti-tank guided missile;
- an RPG-22 anti-tank grenade launcher;
- Tavolga-2 rocket-propelled grenade;
- 2 tank rounds;
- 5 30-mm rounds for a 2A42 autocannon;
- an anti-tank mine;
- 4 rounds for RPG-7 and SPG anti-tank grenade launchers;
- nearly 400 rounds of various caliber;
- 14 kg of artillery powder;
- spare parts for ammunition.
The seized weapons have been sent for examination and will be transferred to the Defense Forces.
The detainee has been notified of suspicion under Article 263.1 of the CCU (illegal handling of weapons, ammunition or explosives).
The investigation is ongoing. The suspect is facing up to 7 years in prison.
The operation was carried out under the procedural supervision of Beryslavskyi District Prosecutor’s Office.
