In Donetsk region, the SBU exposed two deputy mayors on corruption. They misappropriated budget funds allocated for the reconstruction of social infrastructure. The offenders laundered over UAH 700,000 (USD 25,000) within the state program of the Ministry of Regional Development, Building and Housing and Communal Services.

SBU officers established that the officials signed a contract for the construction of a sports complex using the money allocated by the NGO. However, after project completion, the offenders signed another agreement for the same works under the state program.

To misappropriate funds, they entered false information into the acts of work performed, which was implemented under the previous agreement. 

According to the SBU investigation, two high-ranking officials and one of the heads of the regional Center for Physical Health received suspicion notices of:

• misappropriation, embezzlement or conversion of property by malversation;
• forgery of document, stamps, seals or letterheads, and sale or use of forged documents;
• forgery in office.

The operation was carried out jointly with investigators of the Main National Police Department in Donetsk Region under the supervision of Donetsk Region Prosecutor's Office.
