SBU exposes corrupt deputy of Boryspil District Council

The SBU exposed a corrupt deputy of the Boryspil District Council. He extorted and received USD 40,000 from a Kyiv notary.

It was established that the deputy threatened to deprive the victim of a notary’s certificate and to withdraw from the Unified Register of Notaries as a result of deliberate allegations of dishonesty. The offender alleged his contacts with influential politicians and officials of the Ministry of Justice. In order to avoid liability, the money was transferred to the official through a currency exchange office. Then he planned to convert money into cryptocurrency.

Law enforcement officers detained the deputy in Shevchenkivskyi district of Kyiv under Art. 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine after transfer of funds by the notary to a currency exchange office.

The detainee received a suspicion notice within criminal proceedings upon the fact of receiving illegal benefit and its extortion.

The operation was conducted jointly with the Solomianskyi Police Department of the National Police in Kyiv under the supervision of the Solomianskyi District Prosecutor’s Office of Kyiv.
