SBU exposes head of regional department of State GeoCadastre on large-scale land fraud (video)
SBU jointly with the National Anti-Corruption Bureau under the supervision of the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office uncovered the large-scale illegal scheme to allocate public lands to private ownership.
SBU operatives established that the head of the regional department of the State GeoCadastre set up a scheme to extort and receive money for the land plot allocation. He involved his acquaintance as a mediator.
The fraudsters transferred part of the funds received to the head of the State Service of Ukraine for Geodesy, Cartography and Cadastre in city of Kyiv.
Within the criminal proceedings, law enforcement officers documented transferring of almost USD 27,000 by the organizer in city of Kyiv. SBU officers detained the offender in capital while transferring another part of the bribe in the amount of USD 25,000.
Both the organizer and the head of the regional State GeoCadastre were detained according to Art. 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine. Furthermore, the accomplices were to transfer USD 170,000 for orders to allocate land plots to front persons.
The fraudsters are suspected of offering, promising or giving a bribe to an official. The issue of serving the detainees a suspicion notice is being decided.
Appropriate procedural decisions regarding other involved persons are being made.
