New schemes for evaders uncovered
The SSU has thwarted new schemes to evade mobilization and illegally travel abroad by men of military age.
The law enforcement exposed criminals who offered fugitives to escape to the European Union on the basis of forged documents.
The price of such services was up to 10 thousand US dollars.
As a result of complex measures, the organizers of the fraud were detained in different regions of Ukraine. Among them are the head of a department of a Kyiv medical institution, the deputy director of an institute and a lawyer.
Evidence disclosed the involvement of two military registration and enlistment office officials and the head of the military medical commission in Kyiv region in the creation of a criminal organization that "covered up" draft evaders.
Kyiv region:
The Security Service and the State Bureau of Investigation have collected evidence against the organizers of the evasion scheme, which was used to "write off" potential conscripts from the military register.
At the end of August this year, the SSU exposed three organizers of this group. They were two heads of military registration and enlistment offices and the head of the military medical commission in the Kyiv region.
The investigation revealed the involvement of the former head of the local military enlistment office and his son, as well as two other accomplices, in organizing the scheme.
The criminals offered their clients to evade conscription and travel abroad on the basis of bogus certificates of medical disability.
Based on the evidence, all seven defendants were served a notice of suspicion under Art. 255 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (creation, management of a criminal community or criminal organization, as well as participation in it). The offenders face up to 12 years in prison with forfeiture of property.
Kyiv:
The head of the psychiatric department of a local clinical hospital was detained for taking bribes from evaders for falsifying medical documents confirming that they allegedly had serious illnesses.
Poltava region:
Two more schemes for evaders were blocked. One of them was organized by a local lawyer together with several officials of the local center for medical and social expertise.
In exchange for money, the defendant offered her "clients" to obtain disability certificates for close relatives and thus travel abroad with them as an accompanying person.
Another scam was organized by the deputy head of a branch of a Poltava institute. In exchange for various amounts of bribes, he enrolled conscripts in education, which allowed them to claim a deferral from the draft.
The investigation is ongoing to establish all the circumstances of the crimes and bring the perpetrators to justice.
The complex measures were carried out jointly with the National Police under the procedural supervision of the prosecutor's office.
