SSU blocks new draft evasion schemes: military medical commission head and conscripted village council member – suspected organizers
The SSU and the National Police have uncovered 4 schemes of mobilization evasion and illegal departure of conscription-aged men abroad. Organizers of the channels have been detained in several regions of Ukraine.
They include the head of a district military medical commission and a conscripted village council member.
For up USD 12,000, they offered draft dodgers to flee to the EU using counterfeit documents or ‘bypassing’ checkpoints.
In Ternopil region:
An illegal migration channel organized by a village council member has been blocked.
After the start of russia’s full-scale invasion, he was called up to one of the military units of the Defence Forces.
During his service, the perpetrator began to forge letters of justification for an unimpeded import of humanitarian goods, supposedly for the needs of Ukrainian defenders.
Based on the ‘letters’, potential recruits were entered into the Shliakh system. This allowed them to leave the country unhindered.
In Odesa region:
The head of a district military medical commission was detained for selling fake ‘unfit for service’ certificates.
An intermediary helped him find clients. The latter turned out to be a trauma doctor from a local hospital, whom the SSU detained earlier this year.
In Prykarpattia region:
The law enforcement neutralized a criminal group operating in Ivano-Frankivsk and Zakarpattia regions.
The perpetrators smuggled draft evaders to the neighbouring country by swimming across the Tysa River or along forest paths past checkpoints.
The smugglers prepared the routes in advance and instructed the men about their actions during the illegal border crossing.
In Cherkasy region:
the founder of a local charity foundation was detained for selling ‘positions’ in the organization. The ‘posts’ were used to travel outside Ukraine posing as ‘volunteers’.
Investigations are ongoing. The operations were conducted jointly with the National Police under the procedural supervision of the Prosecutor’s Office.
