SSU exposes new draft evasion schemes: military medical commission official and smugglers hiding ‘clients’ in taxis detained

The SSU has blocked another 4 mobilization evasion schemes used by men of conscription age to flee abroad.

Organisers of the schemes were apprehended in several regions of Ukraine. They included an official of the military medical commission and a few criminals.

For money, they offered draft evaders various ‘options’ to evade the call-up and depart from Ukraine using counterfeit documents or going beyond the checkpoints.

The cost of ‘services’ reached USD 10,000 depending on the urgency and way of crossing the border.

In Khmelnytskyi:

An official of a local military medical commission was exposed. For bribes, he ‘added’ serious illnesses to recruits as a reason for ‘writing them off’ from military service.

In Odesa region:

The law enforcement neutralised a transnational criminal group engaged in illegal ‘transportation’ of persons to a neighbouring European country. They drove their ‘clients’ to the border in their own cars or taxis, and then led them across using forest trails or pontoons across the river.

The gang included an Odesa criminal nicknamed ‘Bastion’ and his two foreign accomplices.

To find ‘clients’, they created a Telegram channel and asked to transfer money for their ‘services’ in cryptocurrency.

In Kyiv:

An offender was detained for selling to evaders fake documents on unfitness for service for health reasons.

The perpetrator is a 53-year-old citizen of a Middle Eastern country who has previously been convicted.

The SSU identified and detained the suspect when he received money from a ‘client’.

In Lviv region:

The law enforcement apprehended a 51-year-old resident of Sambir district who, with the support of local criminals, led draft evaders across the border along prepared ‘forest routes’.

The investigations are underway.

The activities were conducted jointly with the National Police under the procedural supervision of the Prosecutor’s Office.
