SSU shuts down new mobilization evasion schemes: bribe-taking military enlistment officer detained
The SSU has shut down another five schemes of evading mobilization and illegal departure of conscription-aged men abroad.
The organizers have been detained in different regions of Ukraine. They offered men to evade avoid conscription using counterfeit documents or helped evaders cross the border outside checkpoints.
The cost of ‘services’ reached USD 10,000.
In Poltava region:
The head of the district military enlistment office was caught extorting money from business owners, including local agricultural companies.
For the bribes, he promised to reserve their subordinates from the mobilization as workers in critical infrastructure.
In Vinnytsia:
The SSU Counterintelligence detained two officials of the military medical commission for selling fake certificates of ‘bad’ health to their ‘clients’.
The counterfeits were used for deregistration and illegal departure from Ukraine.
The organizer of the scheme was detained in late August 2023. He was an official of a local medical diagnostic centre.
In Dnipro:
The law enforcement apprehended a lawyer who entered draft evaders’ personal data into the lists of members of charitable foundations.
The information about the ‘clients’ was then submitted to the Shliakh system as cross-borders drivers transporting humanitarian goods.
In Zakarpattia region:
Three local residents were detained for smuggling draft evaders to a neighbouring EU country.
To get potential conscripts out of Ukraine, they first drove them to the border river and then showed them the water ‘route’. Wetsuits were included in the price.
In Lviv region:
Two perpetrators were detained ‘red-handed’. They were offering potential conscripts the opportunity to travel abroad as drivers for a volunteer organization.
Investigations are ongoing.
The operations were carried out jointly with the National Police under the supervision of the Prosecutor’s Office.
