The SBU stopped the embezzlement of budget money in seven structural subdivisions of JSC Ukrzaliznytsia located in Kharkiv region. The offenders misappropriated the funds paying unjustified salaries and other social welfare payments. According to preliminary estimates, the state losses amount to almost UAH 1 m. (USD 35,714).

SBU officers established that several officials of the Southern Railway structural subdivisions organized the illegal scheme. They paid salaries to employees who, in fact, were not at work. The offenders entered inaccurate information in the timesheets, as well as issued fictitious sick-leave certificates. After illegal vacation, the employees had to give the salary to officials.

During searches of the offenders’ offices, law enforcement found USB flash drives, computers, documents and draft records proving illegal activity.

The investigation is ongoing within the criminal proceedings initiated for misappropriation, embezzlement or conversion of property by malversation. The issue of serving the organizers suspicion notices is being resolved.

The operation was conducted jointly with investigators of the Main National Police Department in Kharkiv region under the supervision of Kharkiv Region Prosecutor's Office.
