SSU exposes Odesa businessman who tried to bribe SSU officers with EUR 90,000

In Odesa region, the SSU documented criminal acts of a businessman who tried to bribe SSU officers.

For EUR 90,000, the entrepreneur offered the Ukrainian Security Service to stop investigative actions and not to seize his property under a criminal proceeding investigated by the SSU.

SSU officers immediately reported this ‘offer’ to their superiors and designed an operation.

This allowed to document the suspect’s criminal actions. During the searches at his home and office in Reni, the entire amount of the bribe was found.

According to the investigation, the offender is a local businessman, director of a logistics company. He is a suspect in another SSU’s criminal proceeding investigating corruption schemes in export of Ukrainian agricultural products.

Based on the evidence collected, SSU investigators served the businessman a notice of suspicion under Article 369.3 of the CCU (offering, promising or giving an unlawful benefit to an official).

The court is to decide on a measure of restraint.

The investigation is ongoing. The offender is facing up to 8 years in prison with confiscation of property.

The operation was carried out under the supervision of the Specialized Defence Prosecutor’s Office of the Prosecutor General’s Office.
