Chernihiv region: SBU exposes organised group attempting to create self-declared “city council”
In Chernihiv region, SBU uncovered organized group, which tried to create pseudo-state formation in Pryluky city to destabilize social and political situation.
Allegedly, a group of nine local residents were going to establish a so-called “alternative” local self-government body. To “legalize” the self-declared body, the suspects developed forged documents, including the “city council” statute.
Thus, the organizers of the group created a profile in social media to distribute information with appeals to join the pseudo-state body. In addition, the agitators disseminated information about creation of the so-called “liquidation committee” to “dissolve” local state and self-government bodies.
During the searches of the suspects’ residences and store rooms, the law enforcement officers seized office equipment, forged statutory documents, blank forms, certificates, seals, stamps and other items proving the illegal activity.
Within the criminal proceedings initiated upon the actions aimed at forceful change or overthrow of the constitutional order or take-over of government, pre-trial investigation is ongoing to identify all the persons involved.
The issues of serving suspicion notice to the offenders and choosing a type of detention are being settled.
The exposing operation was conducted under the supervision of Chernihiv Regional Prosecutor’s Office.
