Kyiv region: SSU exposes cryptocurrency farm stealing UAH 3.5 m worth of electricity
The SSU uncovered a clandestine crypto farm, which, according to preliminary estimates, had stolen electricity worth UAH 3.5 m (USD 128,000).
It was established that the illegal activity was organized by three residents of Kyiv region. To mine cryptocurrency, they rented a hangar in Bucha district, where they installed specialized equipment.
The offenders connected to the power substation bypassing the meter and paid minimal sums for electricity.
During the search of the location where they operated, the law enforcement seized equipment worth over UAH 6 m (USD 220,000).
The investigation into fraud is underway to identify and prosecute all those involved.
The SSU initiated computer, technical and economic forensic examinations to determine the damage caused to the state.
The SSU carried out the operation jointly with the National Police investigators under the supervision of Kyiv Regional Prosecutor’s Office with the involvement of experts from PJSC Kyiv Regional Electric Networks.
