In Odesa region, the SBU exposed an official who gained unjust enrichment.

For almost a year, the offender illegally collected money from subordinate personnel. He extorted 50 percent of bonuses from servicemen who were sent to JFO area. In order to get the highest bonus, the victims had to pay half of the money to the official.

Approximately 500 servicemen were under the command of the offender, 95% of which are regularly rotated to JFO area. Allegedly, the corrupt official earned at least UAH 70.000 (USD 2.600) every month.

Reportedly, the official engaged four individuals as his accomplices. Their main task was to collect money from servicemen immediately after receiving the bonuses.

The law enforcement detained one of the accomplices on taking a bribe.

The detainee is to be served a notice of suspicion of taking a bribe. The investigation is ongoing to bring to justice other persons involved.

The operation was carried out by the National Police Investigation Department in Odesa region under the supervision of Odesa Specialized Prosecutor`s Office in Military and Defense Sphere of Southern region.
