Cherkasy: SSU exposes hospital official on embezzling UAH 12 mln of budget funds
The SSU has exposed a large-scale embezzlement of budget funds allocated to a medical institution in Cherkasy to combat COVID-19 pandemic. According to preliminary data, the offenders misappropriated UAH 12 mln (USD 427,000).
The scheme was organized by a deputy chief of a financial unit. For the past two years, she has been colluding with accomplices to pay for non-existent services and work.
In particular, the official transferred money to the accounts of affiliated businesses for supposed construction and repair works at the medical institution.
Numerous facts of granting of unjustified bonuses, advances and salaries have also been established. Under the guise of Covid-related benefits, the woman made payments to medical workers and persons who supposedly provided services to the clinic.
The fraudster herself had more than 10 bank cards, to which she regularly transferred stolen funds.
According to the experts’ opinion, in this way the offenders managed to appropriate almost UAH 12 mln (USD 427,000) of state funds allocated by the National Health Service to combat the pandemic.
The official has been notified of suspicion of offence under Article 191.5 (appropriation, embezzlement of property or misappropriation through abuse of office) of the CCU.
The investigation is underway to identify and bring to justice other individuals involved.
