SSU exposes prosecutor who helped evade punishment for murder
The SSU exposed a criminal scheme set up by a prosecutor of Mykolaiv Regional Prosecutor’s Office. The official offered assistance in evading criminal responsibility for committing serious crimes.
According to the investigation, the prosecutor set up a scheme to obtain money for ‘assistance’ in evading imprisonment of suspects in criminal proceedings.
The official extorted USD 20,000 from a close relative suspected of attempted murder. For this sum, he promised to change the charges to a less serious offence.
Besides, the prosecutor ‘guaranteed’ that he would influence the court not to choose imprisonment as punishment in the proceeding.
The prosecutor has been notified of suspicion of bribery. The court is to choose the measure of restraint.
The investigation is underway to establish all the circumstances of illegal activity and bring the involved to justice.
The SSU carried out the operation jointly with the General Inspection of the Prosecutor General’s Office.
