The SSU prevented import of a record-breaking amount of counterfeit goods to Ukraine. The officers uncovered a wholesale batch of counterfeit electronic cigarettes worth over UAH 16 mln (USD 580,000).

According to the investigation, the offenders attempted to covertly import 7 tons of foreign-produced goods through Boryspil International Airport. The group provided false information on the cargo in accompanying documentation. They were planning to distribute the merchandise without proper excise stamps on Ukrainian domestic market.

The investigation is underway to establish all the circumstances of the offence and bring to justice those involved.

The SSU carried out the operation together with the National Police investigators under the supervision of Kyiv Regional Prosecutor’s Office.
