In Zakarpattia region, the SBU exposed embezzlement of state funds allocated for the construction of a ward for the reception of COVID-19 patients. The cost of the project was over UAH 10 m. (USD 370,400). The offenders misappropriated more than 1.5 m. (USD 55,555).

The SBU established that in 2020 the local private company won the tender for construction and repair works of the medical facility. According to the contract, the company was to reconstruct one of the hospital buildings into the admission department of COVID-19 patients.

The organizers systematically entered in the official acts inaccurate data on the scope and cost of performed works. Some of them were not actually conducted.

Due to SBU investigation, the director received a suspicion notice of misappropriation, embezzlement or conversion of property by malversation; forgery in office. A type of detention is being chosen.

Investigative actions are underway to prosecute other people involved in the scheme.

The operation was carried out by the SBU Office in Zakarpattia region jointly with investigators of the Main National Police Directorate in Zakarpattia region, under the supervision of Zakarpattia Region Prosecutor's Office.
