The SBU exposed embezzlement of state funds allocated for the construction of the tuberculosis dispensary, which belongs to the Phthisiology regional territorial medical association in Tyachiv district of Zakarpattia region.

Allegedly, after winning the tender for more than UAH 21 m. (USD 730,000), the local construction company misappropriated part of these funds. The contractor systematically provided false information about the amount and cost of work performed.

The construction and technical expertise, initiated by the SBU, confirmed the embezzlement. Currently, the building of the tuberculosis dispensary is not ready for operation. There are no сonditions for servicing citizens, as well as water and other supply systems.

The amount of damage caused to the state tops UAH 2 m (USD 71,428).

Criminal proceedings were initiated upon the fact of forgery in office and embezzlement of budget funds in a particularly large amount. The former director of the construction company received a notice of suspicion. A type of detention is being chosen.

The investigation is ongoing. Involvement of the officials in illegal activity is being checked.

The operation was conducted jointly with the Main National Police Department in Zakarpattia Region under supervision of the regional Prosecutor's Office.

We shall recall that the SBU officers are investigating possible abuses in the medical sector during the pandemic in order to comply with the instructions of the President of Ukraine on control over the distribution of medical equipment.
