SBU exposes fraud in Kyiv medical universities

The SBU officers exposed a large-scale fraud with examinations in Kyiv medical universities.

According to the pre-trial investigation, the scam was organized by a former vice principal of a Kyiv medical university. The offender promised medical students successful passing of the licensed KROK exams using his contacts in the Ministry of Health of Ukraine and the Testing Board.

He involved several of his former colleagues and graduates in the illegal activity. The offenders passed tests instead of students for money reward. For that purpose, they forged passports with their photos.

The minimum cost of such "educational services" was USD 3,000. At the same time, persons passing exams were paid only USD 500, the organizer of the scam received the rest.

Law enforcement officers documented 8 fraud cases.

In total, the scam included more than 60 cases of illegal certification.

During the investigation of fraud, the law enforcement carried out searches in offenders’ residences and venues for exams. The seized inventory included educational documents, forged Ukrainian passports, mobile phones, money, forms of certificates.

Investigative actions are underway. The issue of serving four offenders suspicion notices is being resolved.

The operation was conducted by the SBU Main Directorate for Combating Corruption and Organized Crime, investigators of the National Police, under the supervision of the prosecutor's office with the assistance of the Testing Board at the Ministry of Health of Ukraine.
