SSU exposes fraudsters who swindled relatives of fallen Ukrainian servicemen out of money

The SSU shut down an illicit scheme in Odesa region.

The SSU detained an individual who stole money from relatives of Ukrainian soldiers killed during russia’s full-scale invasion.

In return for a ‘reward’, he and his accomplices promised the affected families their ‘assistance’ in receiving one-time financial aid from the state.

The SSU documented the fact of defrauding USD 10,000 from close relatives of a deceased AFU serviceman.

For this amount, the fraudsters ‘guaranteed’ unimpeded receipt of a package of documents required for the compensation.

The organizer of the scheme ‘promised’ that he would solve this issue supposedly through his own connections among officials of one of the military units.

To force the victims to hand over the money, the offenders used psychological pressure and threatened with ‘bureaucratic’ obstacles.

The law enforcement detained the organizer of the scheme when he was receiving half of the ‘agreed’ amount from the victim’s brother.

The suspect has been notified of suspicion under the Article 190.3 of the CCU (large-scale fraud).

The court is to decide on custody as a measure of restraint.

The suspect is facing up to 8 years in prison.

The investigation is ongoing.

The operational and investigative activities were conducted jointly with the National Police under the supervision of Odesa Region Prosecutor’s Office.
