Kyiv: SSU detains another Russian agent
In Kyiv, the SSU exposed another Russian agent. According to the investigation, the spy was recruited by the so-called Ministry of State Security of ‘DNR’ controlled by Russian special services.
The SSU established that the Ukrainian citizen came to attention of Russians when he visited relatives in the temporarily occupied territory of Donetsk region.
Instructed by his supervisors, the agent was collecting intelligence on military servicemen of law enforcement agencies, including the SSU. In particular, the handlers were interested in the counterintelligence measures against Russian special services.
The agent was tasked to hand over intelligence to the handlers during personal meetings in the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine or through technical communication channels.
The SSU detained the agent in Kyiv.
The Service has launched criminal proceedings under Article 258.2 (terrorist act) and 258-3.1 (participation in a terrorist group or terrorist organization) of the CCU. The investigation is ongoing.
The court has chosen custody as a measure of restraint.
The SSU Main Department of Internal Security and the SSU investigators carried out the operation under the supervision of the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office in Military and Defence Spheres.
