The SBU exposed embezzlement of budget funds allocated for June 2020 flood disaster management in Chernivtsi region. According to findings, a contractor failed to complete emergency recovery work, which resulted in UAH 1.3 m (USD 48,100) misappropriation.

Allegedly, the scam involved the contractor and an official responsible for technical supervision.

Officials of a village council in Chernivtsi region signed an UAH 5.5 m. (USD 203,500) agreement for overhaul of a damaged road. However, according to experts, the relevant works were not completed. As a result, UAH 1.3 m (USD 48,100) were misappropriated.

One of the offenders was served a suspicion notice of embezzlement and forgery in office.

The investigation is on-going to establish all the involved individuals.

The operation was conducted by the SBU Office in Chernivtsi region under the coordination of the SBU Main Directorate for CI Protection of State Economic Interests jointly with the Strategic Investigations Department of the National Police under the supervision of the Chernivtsi Regional Prosecutor’s Office.
