SBU suspends massive customs fraud involving sanctioned Russian companies
The SBU suspended illegal supply of Russian-made mineral fertilizers to Ukraine. Several firms affiliated with a Russian manufacturer company evaded customs duties, causing losses to the state budget. Allegedly, the total sum of unpaid customs duties was USD 48.5 m. (UAH 1.3 b.).
The group of Russian companies were placed on the sanctions list by the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine. During 2014-2018, these companies had been providing false information on customs declaration forms, which enabled them to evade anti-dumping duties.
In Kyiv, the SBU conducted three searches of affiliated company’s office and suspects’ residences. The law enforcement seized cash totaling USD 373.000, documents and other evidence proving the illegal activity.
Two perpetrators were served notices of suspicion. The investigation is ongoing to bring to justice other persons involved.
The operation was carried out by the SBU Main Directorate of Counterintelligence Protection of the State’s Interests in the Field of Economic Security jointly with the State Fiscal Service investigators, under the supervision of the Kyiv City Prosecutor's Office.
