SSU exposes scheme of withdrawing millions from Ukrainian bank leading to its insolvency
Following the SSU investigation, one of the officials of a Ukrainian bank, whose actions led the institution to bankruptcy, has been notified of suspicion. The offender illegally withdrew funds from the bank, which caused losses to the State Deposit Guarantee Fund of UAH 25 mln (USD 880,000).
The bank officials systematically concluded ‘unprofitable’ agreements with other banks, including for purchase and sale of foreign currency.
As a result, these and other operations led the bank to insolvency in 2017. The financial institution is now in the process of liquidation.
The State Deposit Guarantee Fund, which compensates funds to individuals, suffered at least UAH 25 mln (USD 880,000) in losses, according to expert examination.
One of the targets of investigation has been notified of suspicion of the offence under Article 191.5 of the CCU (misappropriation, embezzlement of property, appropriation of property through abuse of office).
The court is to decide on the measure of restraint. Investigation is underway.
The SSU carried out the operation together with the National Police under the supervision of Kyiv Podolsk District Prosecutor’s Office.
