SBU exposes procurement of low-quality spare parts for Ukrzaliznytsia

The SBU exposed a large-scale corruption scheme in Ukrzaliznytsia JSC. Perpetrators supplied low-quality spare parts for the rolling stock, produced on the temporarily uncontrolled territory of Luhansk region. Organizers of the scam included a Russian citizen.

According to the preliminary expert findings, the production does not comply with operating specifications which could have damaged Ukrzaliznytsia contact system worth over UAH 3b (USD 111m).

In addition, in order to get the profit, the offenders deliberately inflated the value of the goods under the guise of procurement of spare parts, made of innovative material.

It is established, that the Russian citizen jointly with high-ranking officials of the enterprise organized a corruption scheme of purchasing spare parts for the rolling stock through a controlled entity in Kyiv.

The said products are seized within the criminal proceeding.

The investigation is on-going to establish all the circumstances of illegal activity and prosecute all involved individuals.

The operation was carried out by the SBU Main Directorate of Economic Counterintelligence Protection of State’s Interests jointly with the Pechersk Police Department in Kyiv under the supervision of the Pechersk District Prosecutor’s Office in Kyiv.
