The SSU exposed embezzlement scheme organized by Zaporizhzhia customs officials. The intentional violations of administrative penalty procedures caused multimillion state losses.

Allegedly, in 2019 the scam was implemented in cooperation with unfair businessmen, who violated the rules of customs clearance of cargoes.

In particular, misconduct committed in connection with official duties caused state losses worth almost UAH 42m (USD 1.5m). A customs officer failed to send files on an administrative offense to the court when required.

As a result, the administrative proceedings were closed due to the penalty expiration.

Currently, one of the employees of Zaporizhzhia customs is served a suspicion notice of neglect of official duty.

The investigation into similar crimes is on-going to bring the individuals involved to justice.

The operation was conducted by the Territorial Directorate of the State Bureau of Investigations, located in Melitopol, under the supervision of the Region Prosecutor’s Office.
