SBU exposes corrupt district chief and two deputies of united territorial community

The SBU exposed and documented a corrupt district chief and two deputies of a united territorial community in Ivano-Frankivsk region. They extorted money from the CEO of a foreign invested agricultural enterprise, which is among the largest taxpayers in the region.

According to intelligence, the offenders demanded money from the manager under the guise of charitable assistance. In turn, they promised not to carry out groundless land use inspections and not to impede with the business activity.

The businessmen had to transfer UAH 200,000 (USD 7,143) to a charity fund owned by one of the deputies.

The law enforcement officers detained three organizers of the scheme after money were transferred to their account.

The detainees were served suspicion notice of receiving an illegal gain by prior conspiracy by a group of individuals accompanied by the extortion of a bribe.

A pre-trial investigation is ongoing.

The operation was carried out by the SBU Office in Ivano-Frankivsk region jointly with the Main Investigation Department of the National Police in the region under the supervision of the Ivano-Frankivsk Region Prosecutor's Office.
