SSU exposes Kyiv doctors and military enlistment officials on draft evasion scheme
In Kyiv, the SSU has shut down another corruption scheme of mobilization evasion and illegal departure abroad.
As a result of multi-stage efforts, the SSU exposed the department head of one of Kyiv diagnostic medical centres and an official of a local military enlistment office.
For bribes, they ‘helped’ persons liable for military service evade conscription using counterfeit health documents.
To do this, the employee of the medical centre sent her accomplices in the local military medical commission false conclusions on the evaders’ health.
The ‘services’ cost USD 11,000 per ‘patient’, which the members of the group divided among themselves.
To hand over the bribes, the corrupt officials engaged their friend as an intermediary.
During the searches of the suspects’ homes, offices and cars, the SSU found large sums of money, as well as phones, seals and documents with evidence of the crime.
Based on the collected evidence, the officials of the diagnostic medical centre and the military enlistment office and their intermediary have been notified of suspicion under three Articles of the CCU:
- 28.2 (committing a criminal offence by a group, upon prior conspiracy);
- 114-1.1 (obstruction of the AFU’s lawful activities);
- 332.3 (illegal transfer of persons across Ukraine’s state border).
All three suspects are in custody without the right to be released on bail. The investigation is ongoing to bring all those involved to justice.
The offenders are facing up to 9 years in prison with confiscation of property.
The activities to eliminate corruption during mobilization were carried out under the procedural supervision of the Prosecutor General’s Office.
