As it turned out, the Chief of Staff of the SSU Counterterrorism Center was working for the enemy.

Vasyl Maliuk informed that the Security Service documented 14 episodes of the mole’s unlawful activity.

The SSU Head himself was a member of the operational and investigative team working on the case and led the operation to detain the spy. Vasyl Maliuk reported on all stages of the special operation directly to the Supreme Commander-in-Chief, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi.

‘It was a highly complex investigation and subsequent multi-stage implementation, during which we used all possible overt and covert forms and methods of our work, as well as the entire range of operational and technical measures. Using encrypted software backdoors, we penetrated the perpetrator’s devices – mobile terminals and computers. We actually lived with him, conducting audio and video surveillance. In the course of all this, we managed to qualitatively document the collection and transmission of information by the traitor to the enemy,’ said Vasyl Maliuk.

During a long period of time, the SSU also used the official to pass disinformation to the enemy: first as part of counterintelligence efforts, and later as part of criminal proceedings.

‘The self-cleansing of the SSU continues. No matter how hard the enemy tries to infiltrate our ranks – they think they have all forms and methods of secrecy – but they will not succeed. Because we expose, document and detain traitors in time,’ Vasyl Maliuk stressed.
