SSU shuts down clandestine server center in Kyiv that russian hackers used for cyberattacks against Ukraine

The SSU Cyber Department has blocked the unlawful activities of a data center operating in the capital.

The offenders ‘virtually rented’ over 100 dedicated servers located in Kyiv and abroad. The servers were used to hack computers, steal passwords and carry out DDoS attacks, including on government websites.

The investigation established that the activity was organized by a resident of Kyiv and his accomplice, who looked for ‘clients’ mostly on the Darknet.

The group served over 100 ‘subscribers’, the vast majority of whom were russian hackers. Some of them were under the control of russian special services and worked to the detriment of Ukraine’s information security.

During the searches, the SSU uncovered and seized:

  • computer equipment, magnetic data carriers and mobile phones with evidence of criminal activity;
  • bank cards, to which ‘clients’ paid for services;
  • server equipment.

One of the members of the group has been notified of suspicion of crime under Article 361-1 of the CCU (creation of malicious software or hardware for unlawful use, distribution or sale, as well as their distribution or sale).

The investigation is ongoing to identify and bring to justice all those involved.

The SSU carried out the operation together with the National Police investigators under the procedural supervision of Kyiv City Prosecutor’s Office.
