SSU exposes ex-head of Lviv defence plant who ‘disarmed’ Ukrainian air defence just before russia’s invasion
In Lviv oblast, the SSU and the ESBU have exposed former head of a strategic defence enterprise on corruption.
The official’s unlawful activities led to a ‘disarmament’ of several Ukrainian air defence systems worth almost UAH 2.4 mln.
The SSU established that by the beginning of 2022 the perpetrator had given unreasonable instructions to his subordinates to dismantle air defence systems brought to the enterprise for repair and modernization. He then misappropriated the ‘written-off’ parts, containing a significant amount of precious metals.
The SSU-initiated examination confirmed his criminal actions.
In this way, the person in question undermined Ukraine’s defence capability on the eve of russia’s full-scale invasion.
The ex-head of the enterprise has now been served a notice of suspicion under Article 191.5 of the CCU (misappropriation, embezzlement or seizure of property through abuse of office).
The investigation is ongoing. The suspect is facing up to 12 years in prison with confiscation of property.
The SSU is checking if the suspect cooperated with russian intelligence services.
The operation was carried out under the procedural supervision of Lviv Specialized Defence Prosecutor’s Office of the Western Region.
According to Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is presumed innocent of a crime and cannot be subject to criminal punishment until their guilt is proven in line with the procedure defined by law and established by a relevant court’s verdict.
