In Zakarpattia region, the SSU jointly with the National Police exposed the perpetrator of the arson of a car belonging to a journalist of the regional news agency. In an operation, the law enforcement identified and located the suspect. 

The offender is a local, who has been repeatedly prosecuted and convicted of a felony.

The SSU is verifying his involvement in other offences against mass media representatives.

In early December this year, the attacker set fire to the car belonging to a journalist. The fire destroyed the vehicle and partially damaged the car of the journalist’s close relative. The motive for the crime was the victim’s debt.

At present, the perpetrator has been notified of suspicion of intentional destruction or damage to property (Article 194.2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). The court is to decide on measure of restraint.

Investigation is underway to identify and bring to justice those behind the crime.

The SSU Office in Zakarpattia region carried out the operation jointly with the National Police and under the supervision of the Zakarpattia Regional Prosecutor’s Office.
