In Transcarpathian region, the SBU exposed the officials who extorted from contractors for the unimpeded fulfillment of the “Great Construction” project in the region.

Allegedly, a deputy head of the Regional Council and a head of the Regional Department of the State Architectural and Building Inspection organized the illegal scheme bribes from businessmen.

The law enforcements documented that the officials demanded money from a representative of a commercial entity that won a tender for the construction of a cultural center in a village within the framework of the Great Construction project.

For more than UAH 500,000 (USD 17,700), the suspects promised the contractor the green light during the performance of relevant construction and repair works.

The SBU detained both officials in the regional center after receiving of the full sum of bribe in accordance with Art. 208 of the Criminal Procedural Code of Ukraine.

The issue of serving suspicion notices to the detainees and choosing them types of detention is being settled.

The investigation is ongoing within the criminal proceedings initiated for taking a bribe.

The operation was conducted jointly with the Main National Police Department in the Transcarpathian region under the procedural supervision of the Zakarpattia Region Prosecutor's Office.
