SBU exposes offender selling online up to 10 kg of gunpowder every day
The SBU exposed a new channel for illegal sale of explosives. A resident of Kirovohrad region supplied his "clients" with up to 10 kg of gunpowder a day. Allegedly, an offender obtained millions of hryvnias from illegal activities.
The SBU verifies information on use of the gunpowder for illicit manufacturing of ammunition.
According to the investigation, the illegal activity was organized by a resident of the town of Oleksandriia, Kirovohrad region. The offender sold wholesale consignments of foreign-made gunpowder to various regions of the country. He used special Internet platforms to find customers and sent goods by mail. The offender received money for sale of explosives on a bank card.
During investigative actions, the suspect was found of:
- more than 100 kg of foreign explosives;
- an anti-tank grenade;
- several firearms, including a Kalashnikov assault rifle, a Shpahin submachine gun and a TT pistol;
- almost 2000 various caliber rounds.
The offender received a suspicion notice for illegal handling of weapons, ammunition and explosives. A type of detention is being chosen.
The investigation is ongoing to establish all the circumstances of the offense, in particular overseas shipping of gunpowder.
The operation was conducted jointly with investigators of the Main Directorate of the National Police in Zhytomyr region under the supervision of the Zhytomyr Region Prosecutor's Office.
