The SBU exposed an official of the Chop Border Guard Detachment of organizing transit traffic of illegal migrants to the European Union. In addition, he participated in smuggling of cigarettes abroad.

According to findings, the official involved his subordinate in illegal activities. The inspector had to overlook detected violations. In return, they were bribed by smugglers.

SBU officers found that the offenders guaranteed assistance in smuggling of cigarettes to the EU. Moreover, in order to get a cash reward border guards planned to arrange transit of illegal migrants outside the checkpoints to one of the neighboring countries.

Law enforcement officers documented bribing for assistance in smuggling of tobacco goods across the state border.

According to the SBU, the offenders are suspected of reception and provision of illegal benefit, illegal transportation of persons across the state border of Ukraine.

The investigation is ongoing to prosecute other involved individuals.

The operation was conducted by the SBU Office in Zakarpattia region jointly with the State Bureau of Investigation in Lviv, Chop Border Guard Detachment and under the supervision of the Military Prosecutor's Office of the Western Region of Ukraine.
