The SBU exposed a large-scale embezzlement of diesel fuel in Ukrzaliznytsia JSC. The operatives established that the illegal scheme had operated in most structural units of the company for a long time. The industry examination has shown that the scheme could reach tens of millions of hryvnias losses.

SBU officers documented that the corruption mechanism continued to operate despite the critical low quantity of diesel fuel on the railway.

In particular, during investigation, employees of the special service jointly with the security office of Ukrzaliznytsia JSC found significant violations in one of the structural units of the of the Southern Railway regional branch. Law enforcement officers received evidence of management involvement in the misappropriation of fuel. To conceal the illicit activities, the fraudsters offered a bribe to the head of the inspection committee of the security office of Ukrzaliznytsia JSC.

As a result, SBU operatives detained the organizer of the scheme in city of Kharkiv on transferring the full amount of the bribe. The detainee was served a suspicion notice of giving a bribe. The issue of choosing a type of detention is being decided.

Measures to expose illegal activities was conducted by the SBU Main Directorate for Counterintelligence Protection of the State's Interests in the Sphere of Economic Security jointly with the SBU Office in Kharkiv region, the Security Office of Ukrzaliznytsia JSC and the Pechersk Police Department of the Main Department of the National Police in Kyiv city under the supervision of the Pechersk District Prosecutor's Office of Kyiv City.

The SBU jointly with Ukrzaliznytsia JSC continue to prevent disruption of the railway transportation due to diesel fuel shortage.
